The Odor Removal Process

Odor removal is essentially broken down into four main steps. Cloud Contents are trained in the removal of the most powerful odors. Whether it be due to a major fire, or mold/mildew sprouting up due to water damage, Cloud is has the know-how and state-of-the-art technology to get the job done the right way.

The first step is to remove the material that is creating the odor. Pretty basic, right? When you have a smelly garbage can, you take out the garbage and the smell mostly goes away-- this is the same concept. This can also be done with a Hepa filter to remove toxins from the contaminated air.

The second step is to neutralize and counteract the odor. Baking is a common odor-neutralizer around the house for smaller odors. After a fire or high volume water damage, Cloud uses Ozone. Ozone is produced by electricity and is incredibly successful at lowering smoke odors especially. There are different neutralizers that work best for different issues, so its best to call a professional. In the past, companies would skip this step and move straight to the masking the odor. At Cloud, we understand the benefits of truly neutralizing the odor, which include getting your items to a healthy status.

Next, comes masking the odor. The difference between masking and neutralizing is correlated to the difference between showering or spraying on cologne. Obviously, the cologne doesn't really make you clean, but it masks poor odors with a good one. Masking odors is certainly useful, but only after you have neutralized the odor as well.

The final step is to encapsulate the odor. Encapsulation is generally done when all other cleaning methods are exhausted. There are plenty of Cloud secrets, but Kilz is one process that helps encapsulate the odor. What this process does is it seals the oder behind the paint layer. It is effective especially in musty, water-made smells.
